My opinion of 6th edition after 11 games.

So after 11 games I've come to the conclusion that

=

Now I know that's a pretty harsh comparison so early on in the editions lifespan, but I'm fairly comfortable making it. I will admit that there are aspects of the game I do like. Some of them I would go so far as to say I really like them. However, the aspects of the game I don't like seem to far outweigh the ones that I do. After 11 games I  can honestly say that I got red in the face mad and wanted to rage-quit the game after 7 of them. How is that fun?

After tonight's game I did rage-quit. Will it stick? I don't know. Probably not. The problem is that I have made friends playing this game and I don't want to risk not hanging out with them anymore. I also still really love the 40k background, both in the rule books and the Black Library books. So do I continue to play a game I think is terrible to hang with friends, hoping against hope that my opinion of the game changes? That's what I'll probably do, but the prospect of ever liking this edition seems pretty bleak right now.

    1. Its all the randomness they've added to the game. I really feel like the outcome of a game less and less up to the players as their decisions have been marginalized in favor of random effects.

    2. Really? I mean what is so random that you can't decide a game? A failed charge is pretty bad, I have been there, but you know the chance is there. I'm just trying to see what is up. Are you gambling on psychic powers?

  2. Looking back at your previous battle report to see your army, I can see that it would have a taken a good knock by the rule changes. 12" range on you jetbikes in a game where most people can charge 13" on average, and jump packs, beasts, cavalry can charge so much more is hard.

Maybe a jetbike heavy army is just not that competitive in 6th. Eldar as whole can probably compete, it would just take you a while to adapt. Probably time to try out some new units ?

    1. Funny you shouldsay that. I have been primarily using my blood angels. I actually feel that my Eldar have become the better of my two armies. Which is a pretty sad statement since their two editions out of date.

  3. Your resounding endorsement of 6th edition makes me glad that I decided to start playing Warmachine/Hordes again. If you ever want to play a game that emphasizes player skill over everything else you should consider it.

    1. Unfortunately Mike I hate the majority of the Warmachine/Hordes models I have ever seen. The aesthetic of 40k is an important aspect to why I choose it over other games. It's certainly the reason I chose 40k over Fantasy when I started back in the day. I don't think I would enjoy modelling or painting a whole bunch of figures that I thought were just plain ugly.
